* until the next one.

In the “interesting, but not news to me” category, people from the LOTR movies are reprising their roles for The Hobbit: Orlando Bloom and Hugo Weaving are now officially rejoining Middle Earth.  Yay.

On to the newsy news.  They cast Stephen Fry as the Master of Laketown, and I cheered mightily, for I loves me some Stephen Fry. It will be unusual to see Fry, who’s almost exclusively played sympathetic characters, take on the role of the greedy and craven Master.

Then they cast Lee Pace as king of the Mirkwood elves, and I completely lost it for a day or two. Every so often, a happy thought like “Lee Pace in elf ears” would drift through my head, and then I’d spend a couple minutes squeeing quietly to myself before regaining composure.

Now the talk of the town is that Martin Freeman (who is playing Bilbo) let slip that his Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch has a role in The Hobbit. Nobody knows what the role is, but my money’s on Bard the Bowman, for the simple reason that it’s the biggest role as yet uncast.

Speculate away!

ETA: God, I love fandom. Here’s some photos of this year’s Tolkien re-enactment in the beautiful Czech countryside.
