Zombie Survival Guide

Tapping into the current zombie zeitgeist, my son recently begged me to let him buy this book. Now, it is worth mentioning that he does not watch zombie movies — he’s eleven — but he is familiar with a couple of the zombie games out there. Really, you’d have to be living under a rock to have missed the current resurgence in zombie interest, what with organized zombie walks  cropping up all over, and out-of-copyright works of fiction getting zombie makeovers.

As soon as he read it, he got it into his head that he wanted to make a zombie movie. “For school,” he said, knowing of course that I’m a sucker for anything that smacks of my children taking an interest in their education.

He made up little flyers and invited a bunch of his friends to come over and dress up as zombies. I pre-ordered some pizzas dredged out the halloween make-up,  and quizzed a few people on the finer points of turning hyper adolescents into undead movie monsters. He wanted to use the Jonathan Coulton song “RE: Your Brains”and we soon discovered that not only does the man write and perform some of the weirdest and best songs ever, but he also allows many of them to be used under very generous Attribution-Noncommercial Creative Commons licenses.

So, “Woo-HOO!” says the boy. Then he got to work. This is what he turned in to his teachers today:

*sniffle*  It’s enough to do a geeky mum proud.
